Starting your air conditioner takes more electricity than keeping it running.

Every time your system starts, the compressor must overcome pressure inside the refrigeration system before it can begin circulating refrigerant. This brief moment places the greatest electrical demand on your air conditioner.

Once the compressor is running normally, the hard start kit automatically removes itself from the electrical circuit.

Installing the wrong hard start kit can cause equipment problems or void manufacturer warranties.

Can Every Air Conditioner Have One?

Not necessarily.

Most single-stage compressors can accept properly selected hard start kits.

However, many inverter-driven and variable-speed compressors use sophisticated electronic controls and generally should not have aftermarket hard start kits installed unless specifically approved by the manufacturer.
