If you’ve never been to Oak Hill, don’t feel bad.
A lot of people drive right past it on their way to somewhere else.

Oak Hill is one of the oldest communities on Florida’s east coast, with roots dating back to the mid-1800s.
Long before highways and theme parks, this area thrived because of fishing, farming, and its location along the Indian River Lagoon.
The city officially incorporated in 1927, and while much of Florida exploded with development over the decades, Oak Hill managed to hold onto its small-town charm.
Today, it’s home to fewer than 2,000 residents.
Which means if there’s traffic, it’s probably because someone stopped to let a turtle cross the road.

It’s really called the Mosquito Lagoon.
Before you panic, it’s not named because the mosquitoes are the size of helicopters.
The lagoon earned its name centuries ago from early explorers, and today it’s actually one of the most famous fishing destinations in the world.
Anglers travel from across the country to catch trophy redfish, speckled trout, and snook in these shallow waters.
