If you’ve never been to Pierson, you’re missing a part of Florida that many people don’t even know still exists.
No endless subdivisions.
No six-lane highways.

Pierson’s story began in the late 1800s when Swedish immigrants settled the area looking for fertile land and a better future. While citrus, timber, cattle, and fishing all played important roles in the town’s early economy, one crop changed everything.
Ferns.
In 1904, Peter Pierson introduced ornamental plumosus ferns to the area, and they thrived. Over the next century, Pierson became known worldwide as the “Fern Capital of the World.” At one point, the area produced more than 80% of the ferns used in floral arrangements worldwide.
Not bad for a town that most people accidentally drive through on their way to somewhere else.
Agriculture is still at the heart of Pierson.
Drive through town and you’ll see fern farms stretching for acres, nurseries, cattle ranches, and family-owned farms that have been here for generations.
It reminds you that Florida isn’t just beaches and theme parks.
Sometimes it’s dirt roads, tractors, and somebody pulling over to let a turtle finish crossing before continuing down the road.

We kind of like that version of Florida.
One thing that doesn’t change between Pierson and Orlando?
The weather.
Summer temperatures regularly climb into the 90s.
Humidity makes it feel even hotter.
And afternoon thunderstorms still show up almost every day, usually about five minutes after you finished washing your truck.
