In the late 1800s and early 1900s, this area was covered with thriving citrus groves, peach orchards, and other fruit farms that flourished along the fertile banks of the St. Johns River. The community earned its name from those early orchards, and although most of the farmland has given way to neighborhoods, the name remains a reminder of Fruit Cove’s history.
Today, Fruit Cove is an unincorporated community within St. Johns County and is consistently recognized as one of the most desirable places to live in Northeast Florida.
