How does HVAC cooling work?

Cooling

  • In the summer, your air conditioner or heat pump cools your home.
  • The system uses refrigerant (a special fluid) that absorbs heat from the indoor air and carries it outside.
  • The compressor and condenser coil (outside unit) release that heat into the outdoor air.
  • The cooled refrigerant returns inside to the evaporator coil, where warm indoor air blows across it, cooling the air.
  • That cool air circulates back into your rooms through the ducts.
