Spend a little time reading homeowner reviews of HVAC companies and you’ll notice a pattern.
People don’t just complain about broken air conditioners.
They complain about trust.
They felt pressured.
They didn’t understand the diagnosis.
They were told they needed a new system but weren’t shown why.
A technician came to repair something and suddenly they were sitting across from a “comfort advisor.”
They couldn’t find pricing anywhere.
They didn’t know whether the recommendation they received was actually necessary.
And sometimes they walked away wondering whether the person standing in their home was there to solve their problem or sell them something.
That’s a terrible relationship.
And to be fair, there are a lot of good HVAC companies and excellent technicians out there.
But somewhere along the way, our industry created a relationship where homeowners are often expected to make expensive decisions about equipment they don’t understand based almost entirely on:
We think we can do better than that.
We’re Klein Cooling, a local, family-owned A/C company serving Flagler, Volusia and St. Johns Counties.
And we’ve been building something.
Not just another HVAC company.
We’re trying to build a different kind of relationship between an A/C company and the people it serves.
One based on trust, transparency, education and evidence.
And here’s the weird part:
We’d rather give you the tools to check us.
So we started building them.
And then we may have gotten slightly carried away.
Ask our A/C chatbot about a diagnosis, repair, quote or pretty much anything HVAC.
See actual Klein Cooling jobs, where they happened and what the customer paid.
Learn considerably more about your air conditioner than you ever intended.
Follow real service calls from the homeowner’s complaint through testing, measurements and diagnosis.
Been told you need a major repair or replacement? Let’s make sure.
See how we’re using the trade God gave us to serve our neighbors.
See why we’re doing any of this in the first place.
HVAC pricing can be incredibly difficult to research.
Most websites give you broad ranges.
Some give you “starting at” prices.
Others give you the classic:
We went another direction.
We put our actual jobs on a map.
The Klein Cooling Real Job Prices Map contains real work we’ve completed throughout our service area.
What happened.
What we did.
Where we did it.
And what the customer actually paid.
Repairs. Maintenance. Ductwork. System replacements. Drain problems. Electrical repairs. Second opinions.
And some genuinely weird stuff.
Because you shouldn’t have to sit at your kitchen table wondering whether $9,000, $12,000 or $18,000 is a reasonable price for something you’ve probably never purchased before.
Every home and every job is different, so the map isn’t a quoting tool.
It’s something arguably more useful:
When we started Klein Cooling, we were told we needed a blog.
Why?
SEO.
What’s SEO?
Apparently, it’s how Google figures out that we’re an A/C company and not a small-batch artisanal cheese shop.
So what do we write about?
Air conditioning.
Does it have to actually be useful?
Not necessarily. Just make sure you use the right keywords.
Huh.
What if we explained how air conditioners actually work?
What if we showed homeowners how technicians diagnose compressors, capacitors, refrigerant problems, humidity issues and airflow problems?
What if we talked about the stuff HVAC companies don’t normally put on their websites?
And—this part seemed important—
So we started writing.
And writing.
And writing.
At some point, calling it a blog started to feel ridiculous.
So now we have A/C University.
It’s basically the Library of Congress, except everything is about air conditioning.
And somehow, we keep finding more things to write about.
A/C University is our growing library of homeowner-friendly HVAC education.
Compressors.
Capacitors.
Refrigerant.
Humidity.
Ductwork.
Inverter systems.
Maintenance.
Efficiency.
Replacement.
Coastal corrosion.
And an alarming number of other subjects normal people have absolutely no reason to think about until their house is 84 degrees.
Because an educated customer is harder to pressure.
Good.
If somebody tells you something about your A/C that you don’t understand, look it up.
If you’re considering replacement, learn about your options before sitting through a sales presentation.
If you’re moving to Florida and wondering why your air conditioner seems to run approximately 347 days a year…
We probably have an article for that too.
This is where things really got away from us.
We built an A/C chatbot and taught it how we approach HVAC problems at Klein Cooling:
Tell Ask Klein what your technician diagnosed.
Give it the measurements you were shown.
Ask what testing should support a failed-compressor diagnosis.
Ask whether a quote sounds reasonable.
Ask whether an 11-year-old air conditioner really needs replacement simply because it’s 11 years old.
Ask what a capacitor does.
Ask what Klein Cooling charges.
That’s intentional.
Transparency isn’t particularly impressive if it only applies to everybody else.
“My technician says my compressor is bad. What should I ask him?”
“My capacitor is rated 45/5 and measured 39/4.8. Is that bad?”
“My house is 77 degrees and 65% humidity. Do I need a bigger A/C?”
“Someone quoted me $18,000 for a new system. Is that reasonable?”
“My A/C is 17 years old but still works. Should I replace it?”
And yes, the chatbot has developed a personality.
We’re monitoring the situation.
Ask Klein is an educational tool and cannot physically diagnose your equipment. Air-conditioning systems contain high voltage, moving components and pressurized refrigerant. Please don’t let a chatbot convince you that today is the day you become an HVAC technician.
Saying:
is marketing.
Showing you how we reached the diagnosis is something else.
That’s why we created our Troubleshooting Ride-Alongs.
These are real Klein Cooling service calls from around our community.
We show you:
What the homeowner reported.
What we inspected.
What we tested.
What we measured.
What those measurements told us.
And what ultimately fixed the problem.
Sometimes it’s complicated.
Sometimes it’s embarrassingly simple.
Sometimes somebody was already told they needed a compressor.
And sometimes…
it wasn’t the TXV.
We don’t make the rules.
We’d rather show our work.
If another company has diagnosed a major failure or recommended replacing your system, Klein Cooling offers a Free Second Opinion.
That doesn’t mean the other technician is wrong.
There are plenty of excellent HVAC technicians and companies in our area.
Sometimes equipment really is done.
But when thousands—or sometimes tens of thousands—of dollars are involved, we think homeowners should feel completely comfortable saying:
A second opinion isn’t an accusation.
It’s verification.
We’ll evaluate the system and tell you what we find.
If the compressor is bad, we’ll tell you.
If replacement makes sense, we’ll tell you.
If repairing it makes more sense, we’ll tell you.
And if you don’t need a new air conditioner?
We’ll tell you that too.
Our technicians are there to diagnose, explain and help.
We don’t want a service call to become a sales funnel.
That doesn’t mean we’ll never recommend replacing an air conditioner.
Sometimes replacement really is the better decision.
But that recommendation should come from the condition of the equipment and what’s best for the homeowner—not from a sales quota.
If you want replacement options, we’ll happily give them to you.
If you want to repair your existing system and that’s a reasonable option, we’ll help you do that.
We don’t believe:
Old A/C = New A/C.
We also don’t believe keeping an old air conditioner alive forever is some sort of moral achievement.
Condition matters.
Measurements matter.
Repair history matters.
Repair cost matters.
Efficiency matters.
Comfort matters.
Your plans for the home matter.
And what you want matters.
We’ll give you our recommendation.
We’ll explain why.
Then you decide.
Your house. Your money. Your decision.
Crazy concept.
Our standard diagnostic is $85.
If you approve a repair with Klein Cooling, we waive the diagnostic fee.
For repairs, replacements and larger projects, we’ll explain the scope and price before the work begins.
You shouldn’t have to wonder what you’re agreeing to.
And “it’s probably getting weak” isn’t a measurement.
Yes.
Our chatbot came up with that.
We’re keeping it.
Complaining about the HVAC industry isn’t particularly useful if we’re unwilling to do something about it.
That’s one reason we created the Klein Cooling Free HVAC Training Program.
We’re teaching people the fundamentals of the trade through classroom education and hands-on training.
Not just how to replace parts.
How to think.
How to measure.
How to troubleshoot.
How to serve people well.
Because the technicians entering this industry today will help determine what homeowners think about HVAC companies twenty years from now.
Knowledge is something God has entrusted to us.
And strangely enough, it doesn’t become smaller when we give it away.
LEARN ABOUT FREE HVAC TRAINING
There are times when somebody needs help more than we need another profitable service call.
Through Klein Cooling Community Cares, we look for opportunities to use the trade God has given us to serve people in our community who genuinely need a hand.
Sometimes that’s equipment.
Sometimes it’s labor.
Sometimes it’s partnering with other people and organizations who want to help.
We can’t solve every problem.
The Real Prices Map isn’t.
A/C University isn’t.
Ask Klein isn’t.
The free second opinions aren’t.
The training program isn’t.
Even transparency isn’t.
We’re Christians.
And if that statement means anything, it should affect more than what we put in the footer of our website.
Jesus taught us to love our neighbor.
To serve rather than seek to be served.
To tell the truth.
To care about people others overlook.
To be faithful with what we’ve been entrusted.
And to treat others the way we would want to be treated.
We’re imperfect people trying to build a company on a perfect foundation.
We’re going to get things wrong.
But when we do, we know which direction we’re supposed to turn.
It’s why Community Cares exists.
It’s why we teach.
It’s why we give second opinions.
It’s why we publish prices.
It’s why we give homeowners the tools to question us.
And it’s why we’re willing to tell someone not to buy an air conditioner from us.
We’re not doing these things because we’ve discovered some brilliant new HVAC marketing strategy.
We’re trying to do them because we believe everything we’ve been given—this company, this trade, our knowledge, our resources and the opportunity to serve another person—ultimately belongs to God.
And we’re responsible for what we do with it.
“We love because he first loved us.”
